Compressibility and hydraulic conductivity of municipal solid waste
This paper provides comparisons of compressibility and hydraulic conductivity parameters of mechanically and biologically pre-treated (MBT) waste and post-treated waste (i.e., raw waste treated via bioreactor) at various degrees of decomposition (DOD). This comparison revealed reasonable correlations between the hydraulic conductivity values of pre- and post-treated municipal solid waste (MSW). Furthermore, it is recognized that particle size might also have a significant influence on the hydraulic properties of MSW. However, the compression ratios of pre- and post-treated MSW do not show such strong correlations.
