Analytical and numerical free vibrations of thin rectangular clamped plates
Many problems of modern technology require a datailed undersstanding of the motion (dynamics) of plates. he central problem of vibrations, free and forced motion of plates of bounded extent, and associated mathematical tools such as eigenfunctions and eigenvalues are discused in this paper. The objective is to use the concept of thin plates in bending according to Kirchoff`s assumptions and to analyze their free vibration behaviour. An analytical solution of the lowest eigenvalue of vibration of clamped rectangular thin plate is obtained using Ritz´s method on the basis of assumed mode shape. Finite element analysis on the same example brings out the results for higher natural frequencies and associated mode shapes of freely vibrating clamped rectangular thin plate.
