Variable temperature flow field for proton exchange membrane fuel cells
The final objective of this work is development of a PEM fuel cell system without external humidification, in which efficiency, stability and durability will not be compromised. The idea is to impose and control the temperature field in such manner that the RH distribution along the reactant channel lengths will be close to the water vapor saturation point. A robust CFD model has been developed in order to give a detailed insight in multi-physical phenomena inside an operating fuel cell. The results of the CFD analyses have shown very good agreement with experimental data, and gave insight in highly non-uniform nature of the operating parameters inside a fuel cell.
