Globalisation and welfare state in the 21st century: step forward or step back?

As a specific institution, the Church has helped through the history primarily the poorest and socially threatened citizens, providing in that way some kind of social security. After 19th century, the State began to act preventively. The state intervention was limited to correction of the greatest social risks that affected the poor and older people. Greater state's involvement in the social sphere started after big economic crises and the Second World War, when the state increased the existing social rights. Today we live and create in the world that has became global and is facing big changes. Globalization has entered in all pores of economic, judicial, political, cultural and social life of each country. Welfare state has also found itself under the burden of globalization. The welfare state of today has entered not only the money, program and institutions crises, but it is also facing the crises of idea on the state’s care for economic and social rights of people. The process of economy globalization in the 21st century seeks the transformation of welfare state. In globalization terms, some steps should be taken in order to change generous welfare state. Yet, permanent task of the "21st century (welfare) state" is to avoid and diminish inequality in the society.
