Citizens’ privacy concerns: does national culture matter?

This chapter examines the relationship between privacy concern and national culture. Based on two public opinion surveys conducted in Croatia, composite measure of online privacy concern and dimensions of national culture on regional level based on Hofstede were calculated. Positive significant relationship between two of Hofstede’s cultural dimensions and privacy concern was found: Power Distance and Long-term Orientation. The results suggest that there might be deeper relations between privacy concern and cultural values worth further exploring.
