Miklós Istvánffy and Croatia: publice and private persona
The author indicates strong connections Istvanffy had with Croatia. Due to his participation in Croatian political and cultural life, along with his family and relationships with the Croatian aristocracy, but also because of intensive – and insufficiently highlighted – influence of his historical work on Croatian historiography, Istvanffy holds a significant place in Croatian history and culture. His role of a devoted Catholic who brought Jesuits order into Croatia, and to which he donated some of his estate (such as Paukovec), and left by bequest a part of his precious library cannot be omitted. After his retirement from active political life, he had permanently moved to his estate Vinica, where he devoted the rest of his life to historiography work. He was also buried there – a gravestone from 1603 and embossed plates in 1604 with the family coat of arms that remained preserved purport this undoubtedly.
