Validation of the Cycle-Simulation Model with the Experimental Data of Single Cylinder SI Engine
The experimental results of SI engine that was operated at 1000 rpm with the stoichiometric mixture were used for the validation of the cycle-simulation model. The spark sweep was performed, and several operating points were analysed representing the knock-free and high- knock operation. The applied cycle-simulation model uses 1-D/0-D modelling approach where the process of combustion is described with specially developed ignition model and extended fractal combustion model. The prediction of knock occurrence and knock intensity were calculated using the developed 0-D knock model integrated into the combustion model. The comparison of simulated average cycle results and averaged results over 300 cycles (with cyclic combustion variability) has shown that the modelling of cyclic combustion variability significantly improves the prediction of knock occurrence in SI engines.
