Numerical Investigation of Pulverized Coal Combustion inside a Cement Rotary kiln
The highest energy demanding process during cement production is the clinkering process, which occurs inside a rotary kiln. To produce high quality clinker, stabile operating conditions inside the rotary kiln are needed. In order to numerically investigate the operating conditions in an industrial rotary kiln, a numerical model of the pulverized coal combustion was developed and implemented into a commercial CFD code AVL FIRE®, which was then used for the numerical analysis. The results gained by this simulation can be used to improve the understanding of the complex thermo-chemical phenomena occurring inside the calculated rotary kiln.
