Evaluation of AF4 for the fractionation of protein-coated silver nanoparticles in artificial seawater
The performance of an asymmetric flow field-flow fractionation (AF4) system with newly developed miniaturized channel and on-line coupled UV-VIS detector was investigated for model environmental samples. The samples comprised of bovine serum albumin-coated silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in artificial seawater (ASW) as a proxy for biocorona-coated metal nanoparticles in watewater streams that by direct outflow may enter estuarine and near-coastal waters near large population centres. A range of parameters including specificity, selectivity, repeatability, linearity, recovery, limits of detection (LOD) and of quantification (LOQ) were analysed.
