Active vs. inactive population according to body size, body composition and functional abilities
The aim of the study was to determine and analyse differences in morphological status, some functional and motor abilities between active and non-active groups of adults. The sample comprised 1537 employed citizens of Croatia. The subjects filled in the physical activity questionnaire and underwent the testing, according to the EUROFIT battery protocol. The results showed that 66% of men and 80% of women were not engaged in any kind of sports-recreational activity. The percentage of active men decreased from 47% to 23.7% from the third to the sixth life decade. In women the data were oposite, the percantage of active women increased from 15% in the third life decade to the 35% in the sixth life decade. The most apparent differences in both genders were found in lower waist circumference and lower WHR in active subjects, implicating lower risk for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus etc.
