Systems Problem Solving in Traffic Science and Technology
Systems paradigm and methodologies (hard, soft and fuzzy) are essential for solving complex problems in the field of traffic science and technology. Different disciplinary and specialist knowledge oriented to traffic system components and thinghood properties can be integrated horizontaly using formalised systems transformations, procedures and expert tools. Because traffic system problem does not exist at the component level, other engineers oriented to design vehicles, devices or network parts might ignore traffic technologists as system problem solvers. Author proposes comprehensive system concepts and principles intended to provide a common basis for the holistic perception, understanding, analysis and design of traffic systems. The generalised elementary traffic system on the highest level of abstraction gives an "explanation in principle". Structures and processes of traffic systems can be associated with fundamental quantities that can describe traffic phenomena independent of the physical realisation of traffic systems.
