Does increased physical workload at job improve motor and functional abilities?

The study was performed in order to determine the connection of high physical workload at the job and improvement of functional and motor abilities. The subjects (494 men, age 20-60) were tested by means of Baecke`s questionnaire in order to determine their Work index and by EUROFIT battery of tests to determine functional and motor abilities. The subjects with high work index performed poorer than the subject with lower work index, implicating that high physical workload at the job does not mean the higher positive changes in functional and motor abilities. It could probably be attributed to the fact that intensity of the workload at the workplace does not exceed the kinesiological threshold and per se is not an adequate stimulus. According to the result it can be concluded that instead of positive changes it induces fatigue and overload.
