Some unknown non-pollen palynomorphs from the Blatuša area (Croatia)
The reconstruction of the vegetation history is mainly based on pollen analysis, even the macrofossils fragments and, in recent time, non-pollen palynomorphs (NPP) also have an important role in explaining climate-vegetation changes. The characteristic morphology features of pollen grains allow researchers to distinguish plants on the species/genus or family taxonomic level which makes pollen suitable for flora/vegetation assessment on local or, mainly, on regional/global level. However, specific group of protists and/or animal/fungal remains can also be good indicators for local environment conditions. Difficult to distinguish and determinate, the NPP can greatly support the interpretation of environmental changes during the past, and also clarify the antropogenic influence in some areas. The aim of NPP presented in this research is to be discussed with experts for different groups of organisms and confirm them as to be suitable/unsuitable for making the story of environmental changes caused by natural and/or human influence.
