Effect of Different Pd(II) Precursors on Rates of Solid-State C–H Bond Activation
While the C–H bond activation by Pd(II) compounds is widely explored in solution, investigations in solid-state are limited in spite of the fact that the solid-state methods such as ball milling and accelerating aging, have been evaluated as a valuable alternative to the traditional synthetic methods in solution. Here we describe mechanochemical and vapour-induced C–H bond activation of 4-chloro-4’-(N, N-dimethylamino)azobenzene with various Pd(II) compounds (Figure 1). In situ Raman monitoring of solid-state processes reveals a strong influence of different Pd(II) precursors on the rate of azobenzene C–H bond(s) activation. Moreover, the formation of final products, containing either one or two Pd–C σ bonds, depends on applied solid-state method and Pd(II) compound.
