Nitranilic acid as a bridging ligand for construction of novel coordination polymers
Nitranilic acid (2, 5-dihydroxy-3, 5-dinitroquinone, NA) is a quinoid compound capable of acting as a bridging bis(bidentate) ligand analogous to other substituted 2, 5-dihydroxyquinones (anilic acids) and the oxalate dianion. However, it has been surprisingly little studied and only a few of its metal complexes have been known. We have prepared and structurally characterised a series of novel coordination polymers of nitranilic acid with different topologies. Compounds [CoNA(H2O)2]n and [CuNA(H2O)2]n are isostructural and are 1D zig-zag polymers analogous to similar complexes of chloranilic acid. Anionic polymer [AgNA]-n crystallises as a salt with dimethylammonium cation and displays a novel 1D motive of double chains. Complex [Ag2NA]n has a 3D network. This study shows that the nitranilic acid has a great potential for design of coordination polymers or metal-organic frameworks.
