Prvi nalaz vrsta pontski galeb (Larus cachinnans) i srebrnasti galeb (Larus argentatus) u Bosni i Hercegovini
Caspian and European Herring gull were recorded for the first time in Bosnia and Herzegovina this year (2017), during International Waterbird Census on Una river in Bihać. In addition to this finding, few tens of Caspian Gull were recorded in Kupreško polje by the Milač river and by the landfill. Until recently, European Herring Gull (Larus argentatus), Caspian Gull (Larus cachinnans) and Yellow-legged Gull (Larus michahellis) were considered a single species - Larus argentatus, but are now listed as three separate taxa. The taxonomy of the large white-headed gulls is particularly complicated, which is probably one of the reasons why Caspian and European Herring Gull weren’t recorded in Bosnia and Herzegovina before. Also, the hybridisation between different gull species occurs frequently, which makes the identification difficult.
