Reliability of the Ship Systems
The meaning of the term reliability is commonly understood as a probability of successful execution. The ability of the system to function properly depends on the ability of individual components to work, or in other words, their reliability. In the literature there are many papers dealing with reliability theory of technical systems, where general principles and reliability tasks are considered. In order to gain the reliability of complex ship systems, it is necessary to divide ship systems into less complex parts and elements (subsystems, components), to determine the reliability of its subsystem components as well as the system reliability as a whole. Efforts to increase the reliability of ship systems have to go in the direction of choosing better components and better maintenance, i.e. adjusting the maintenance concept for the longevity of the system.
