Assessment of stern slamming occurrence probability for a motor yacht
For a motor yacht with length of 38.5 m an assessment of stern slamming occurrence probability is performed. Based on the ship drawings and mass distribution received from CADCON d.o.o., Pula, Croatia (CLIENT), hydrodynamic model is generated and seakeeping analysis is performed in order to obtain transfer functions of ship relative motions and velocities. The obtained transfer functions are used as input parameters for spectral analysis and combined with corresponding wave scatter diagram and wave spectrum in order to obtain response spectra. Both for seakeeping and spectral analyses the UNIZAG FSB in-house potential flow code and postprocessing code, respectively, are used. Finally, the recommendations and conditions for direct strength assessment of ship aft structure are drawn.
