Optical properties of hybrid systems of biomolecules and metal clusters in context of biological aging
This diploma work explored possibility to use the small silver particles as optical absorbing labels for oxidized proteins. In this way, small silver clusters represent a small local probe with significant advantages over normally used organic dyes since they do not require chemical coupling to the peptide and they change the peptide conformation only locally. This local change in the peptide conformation can in fact give rise to novel types of structure which are not accessible in pure peptides or proteins and can also induce novel functionality in proteins.
Density functional theory, optical properties, dinitrophenylhydrazine, aminoacids+silver clusters
