The Euro and its Impacts on Accessing Countries - Slovenia and Croatia
Slovenia and Croatia are having the same interest to become members of the EU. Present position of both countries in relation to the EU in trade terms is similar but dissimilar in convergence criteria and in institutional relations (formal Agreements) with the EU. Analytical comparison of similarities and dissimilarities in relation to the EU formulates the background for estimation of key potential implementation differences in national monetary and fiscal policies from the perspective of impacts developed by euro. Practical impacts of euro on exporters and importers from Slovenia and Croatia are interconnected with national strive for the fulfillment of the convergence criteria. The time perspective ob both countries in relation with practical and actual membership in the EMU are essentially different. Should both countries follow similar monetary and fiscal measures towards euro in spite of all practical and formal differences in relation with the EU? Analyses shows that it could be positively advocated that the majority of policy’s solutions should be similar in Slovenia and Croatia in spite of differences in time and institutional horizons deciding their abilities to enter EU and EMU.
