Cooper run test in young student from metropolitan area
Introduction: A valid and widespread endurance assessment is represented by the Cooper run test: it is also alternative to the famous Mile's. In advance, this field test is a useful in scholastic enviroment and the use of alghorithms may allow the determination of O2 consumption. The assessment during years could define the trend of performance in young student: overall in metropolitan area. Thus, a nine-year longitudinal study was carried out. Material and methods: Every September during the second week of school 360 students were evaluated using Cooper run test. All participants were 14 years-old and were beginning the high school program. Students were tested between the years 2003 and 2011 (45 students for each year, on average). The test was assessed during Physical Education lesson by the ofiicial teacher. In all cases the path was tracked in the garden. In this brief report are showed the results of a wide sample of young metropolitan students. All results are divided within sex and year of execution. Results: During years female run 2049 meters while male 2440 meters. Female performed the best trial in 2005 (2300 meters) while the worst in 2007 (1830 meters). The variability was ranged between 104 (2008) and 334 meters (2009). Authors did not know any relation between the results and the year of execution. Male performed the best path in 2004 (2670 m3ters) whike the worst in 2006 and 2007 (2300 meters). The variability in male was greater than female: 317 on average. Indeed, the coefficients of variation were 9% and 13% for female and male respectively. Like for female no relation between results and year were known. It is not possible define a regular trend during year both for male and . The mean difference between male and female performance is about 400 meters (max=712 m ; min=118 m). Discussion: The use of motor tests allow a valuable monitoring about physical skills. This is useful to investigate and recognize crucial situation (like adolescence) and to plan educational program to improve the performance, to avoid deficit or lead new action during growing. The physical level of Italian young maintained moderate performance in this endurance test but few students (24 on 360) reach 'excellent' results. Thus the physical education oprogram could be used to improve tan active sport lifestyle for human well-being and to keep constant the performance during generation.
