The Interpretation of American Images in Southeastern Europe : Transmission of Global Metaphors
This paper explores the contemporary phenomenon of a global/American culture and its role in Europe, with special reference to the challenges faced by the developing countries of the Southeastern Europe. The second part of this paper addresses the importance of language in globalisation processes and identity construction. Two interrelated questions dominate the debate: a) globalization seen as a gateway to the free world and new technology ; b) globalisation seen as a threat to cultural and national identity. This dispute leads to common conclusion that globality is not inherently good or bad thing. Every nation needs to find its unique way to modernity and new identity.
