ANALYSES OF VRANA LAKE (ISLAND OF CRES, CROATIA) MEAN ANNUAL WATER LEVEL
The paper analyses complex hydrological behaviour of Vrana Lake mean annual water level during the time period 1929-2017 (89 years). The large mass of the lake fresh water body (average volume of c. 220×106 m3) fill up deep cryptodepression located in the completely karstified small Adriatic island of Cres (405.71 km2). A strong and dangerous drop in the level of water started in 1983. The paper deals with explanation of this phenomenon. Using autocorrelation, single and multiple linear correlation methods the analyses of relationship between the mean annual water level (as dependent variable) and the mean annual air temperature, annual precipitation and volume of annual water pumping from the lake (as independent variables) are analysed. It is concluded that the long- lasting memory effect (about six years) of the large water body of Vrana Lake plays a crucial role in the hydrological behaviour of its water level.
