The interaction between the morphological characteristics and motor skills of boys and girls aged 7 to 11

Standard battery of measuring instruments of 11 variables-4 morphological variables and 7 motor abilities variables, which is currently applied in the Croatian school system, was applied in order to determine, through the application of canonical correlation analysis, the interactions between the sample of 148 female and male pupils (73 boys and 75 girls) aged 7-11, attending primary school Ivan Goran Kovačić in Delnice. Two pairs of canonical factors on the level p=.000 and p=.005., were determined among boys and girls through canonical correlation analysis. The first canonical factor in morphological space among girls and the second among boys, were determined as integral canonical factor of motor abilities. The obtained results showed that boys achieve satisfactory results in variables of integral canonical factor of motor abilities based on the first pair of canonical factors, regardless of the values in morphological characteristics variables. In the second pair of canonical factors, morphological integral factor of growth and development is in statistically significant relations with the frequency movement and flexibility rate, which specifically means that boys at this age, showing higher morphological caracteristics, achieve higher values in the frequency movement rate and flexibility. The integral factor of growth and development among girls is in statistically significant relations with integral factor of motor abilities (explosive strenght, body coordination, repetitive and static strenght). In the second pair of canonical factors, higher girls achieve higher values in frequency movement rate, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. The conclusion is that boys and girls aged 7-11 achieve better results in motor abilities if they show higher values in morphological caracteristics.
