Cartography between Imperial Politics and National Movements: 19th Century Mapping of Croatia
The huge geopolitical changes, which took place during the 19th century, had a crucial impact on East-Central European cartography. The Croatian example is perhaps one of the most specific ones. Divided between the imperial interests of France, Britain, Italy and the Austrian Empire, 19th Century mapping of Croatia went through a long journey, from imperial mapping in the first half of the 19th century to the development of the national cartography in the second half of the 19th century. The purpose of the research is to present how cartography worked in the turbulent conditions of constant geopolitical changes and local national movements.
