Different Approaches to Solar Thermal Integration in Production Processes: A Review

Wide and limited use of fossil fuels leads to find replacement with other energy sources. Solar heat energy is one of the possible solutions. There are many projects that have studied renewable energy sources. The renewables have many advantages, but also numerous disadvantages. Solving of the disadvantages is the key to successful use of fuels from renewable energy sources. Solar thermal energy can be easily used for heating. However, there are many problems in solar collectors` efficiency, heat loss, constant temperature of heat supply, weather conditions, and the top problem is heat storage. All these elements are very important for further use of solar thermal energy in production processes. This paper gives a review of the designs of solar heating systems, implemented projects and the main methodologies used for solar heat integration in production processes. Solar heating systems have different construction in solar modules and heat storage. All these designs are specified in a generation of heat with a certain temperature range. The temperature range of working fluid is important for the selection of an appropriate system that will be integrated in the processes. Moreover, the effective use of solar thermal energy integrated in production processes is approved by many cases mentioned in this work. The main emphasis in this comprehensive review is given to a variety of methodologies used in Solar Heat Integration in Production (SHIP). Mainly, they include Pinch technology. On the other hand, there are different strategies and approaches. Solar thermal energy integration in production processes provides great opportunities for research and implementation in many countries with good insolation.
