Rudists and larger benthic foraminifers as relative indicators of water depth - an example from the Istrian (Upper Cretaceous and Eocene) part of the Adriatic Carbonate Platform
During the Cretaceous and Paleogene the Istrian peninsula was the northwestern most part of the Adriatic Carbonate Platform(s), where mainly cabonate sediments with abundant and diverse shallow marine faunas deposited. The predominant role of rudists and larger benthic foraminifers over associated organisms is the main characteristic of fossil faunas in this region.
