Nationalism, modernization and society in Croatian long century

Processes of the formation of Croatian national ideology and various types of nationalism that have emerged from it, came to be mainly as reaction to the fact that modernization was comprehensive event and therefore propulsive forces in society will work for, or against this unpredictable machine. Reaction of the political and economic elites could be seen as the result of competition made from the side of so called "privileged nations" like Austrians or Hungarians. In the sphere of investments Croatian nationalist had their bankers in Budapest and Vienna. Also we must add that national conflict between Croats and Serbs was by its origins modern. During this time Croatian political elites have built their political ideology that was with the absence of real modernization process shaped as a cultural nationalism, or modernization without its technological predecessor and the repercussions of the industrialization, civil society. Cultural nationalism was the reaction of the local nobility, and in Croatian case they have exploited their municipal privilege when they have legitimate remains of the class liberties embodied in medieval parliament as the foundation of their historical right, but not so eager to subsidiary this rights to the people themselves. Demographic growth, with low purchasing power of agriculture workers, low output in production as the result of absence of investments, made Croatia excellent in the exporting of its people, creation of the large diaspora. With the fact that only those that could purchase the ticket to America for by themselves were the one that have gone. Industrialization through modernization process from 1873 until 1939 made solid productive basis for developing second industrialization. Uneven technological progress and monopolistic competition have made pockets of workforce capable for its further development. But all was destroyed through the Second World War, war that had elements of genocide, civil war and international conflict. Demographic loses were most severe in the structure of the dynamic parts of the production force. We must add that in the socialist period we would have new forms of nationalism.
