The aspects of tensile testing macine stiffness on measured results
In order to apply optimal material during the design process of a new product, it is necessary to know its mechanical properties, which are usually provided by material manufacturer. Apart from manufacturer documentation, there is often need for some additional information that is provided from data measured with uniaxial tensile testing devices under laboratory conditions. This paper presents an ongoing work that aims to point out possible inaccuracies in measured results introduced by construction of Screw-Driven uniaxial tensile testing machines, as well as to provide reliable strain measurement method that avoids such errors. Stereophotogrammetry was used to inspect influence of machine stiffness on measured results. Results of grip displacements in loaded and unloaded case implie that construction of the machine has noticeable influence on measured results, and shows the need for measuring method which will not be influenced by machine deformation of tensile testing device it is applied on.
