The dynamic analysis of suspended cable due to a sliding body
In this study the dynamic behaviour of suspension cable under sliding body was investigated. The cable is modelled using isogeometric approach [1]. Compared with finite element method (FEM), isogeometric analysis (IGA) uses a different mathematical description of the geometry which enables it to preserve the exact geometry which is especially important for complex structures such as cable structure. The sliding body is modelled as physical elastic pendulum whose pivot slides along the cable. The Lagrangian formulation and isogeometric analysis method were used to derive the system matrices. Two sets of equations of motion are obtained, which are nonlinear and coupled together in a model described by a system of differential algebraic equations (DAE). The main source of nonlinearity are large displacements. This geometrical nonlinearity requires using second Piola-Kirchoff stress and Green-Lagrangian strain. The natural frequencies and mode shapes of the suspended cable are determined. The sliding body induces dynamic responses of suspended cable which were obtained using Newmark integration method incorporated with Newton-Raphson iteration technique. The calculation and obtained results are discussed in details.
