The marine bivalve molluscs in the Kornati national park and Dugi otok natural park (Adriatic Sea)
The knowledge on bivalve species and their ecology in the Kornati national park and the Dugi otok natural park is insignificant, and the preparation of a bivalve list is needed and is still incomplete. A total of 71 bivalve species from 33 families is included in check list. Their distribution patterns and abundances pointed to well investigated medio and upper littoral rocky communities, less to those from soft bottoms with and without vegetation, or from deep water zones. Some common Adriatic species were either rarely collected, or were not observed in the Kornati Islands region. Recorded bivalves, in the check list of the Kornati national park and the Dugi otok natural park, that represent about 34% of Adriatic species, clearly show the introductory meaning of the list and require a continuation of bivalve investigations.
