Nitrification-profile of pH and DO as a refflection of microbial reactions
The effect of organic load in heterotrophic nitrification at different ratios of C/N (COD/N) and the effect of pH on autrotrophic nitrification were investigated. In the autotrophic and heterotrophic nitrification processes NH4-N, NO3-N, NO2-N, COD, DO, and pH were monitored. Nitrification was performed at two lab-scale batch reactors which operated under controlled conditions using activated sludge from a local wastewater treatment plant and synthetic wastewater. DO and pH profiles reflect and explain the course of microbial reactions in nitrogen removal.
