Some Considerations on the Iconographic Characteristics of the Isiac Monuments from Salona
The Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna holds two bronze busts of Isis and Serapis from Salona made in Hellenistic-Roman tradition. The exact context of their discovery remains unknown. However, the diadem of Isis presents two serpents/cobras, which is typical, but rare motif considered worth of re-examination. In the paper I will try to find analogies for this bust as well as the one of Serapis. In addition, for both statuettes, I will discuss eventual competences of Isis and Serapis that can be recognized and determined, based on that specific iconography and its significance in the context of Isiac monuments from the Roman (Dalmatian) city of Salona.
