The effect of soil conditioners and biostimulants on mineral content of rocket and radish
Biostimulants and soil conditioners provide improved conditions for growth and development of plants and have a significant role in modern vegetables production. Due to the increasing availability of biostimulants and soil conditioners on the market, it is necessary to research their influence on nutritional value of different vegetable species. The research was conducted in an unheated greenhouse during spring period of 2016. The aim of research was to determine the effect of biostimulant 'Bio- algeen S92', soil conditioner 'Azomite' and their combination on the mineral content of rocket and radish. Application of tested treatments resulted with higher nutritive value of rocket leaves in comparison to radish hypocotyl. The dry matter content of rocket and radish was in a range from 7.61 to 8.56 % dw and 3.13 to 4.16 % dw, respectively. Among the tested treatments, there were significant differences in the mineral content of both vegetable species, except for phosphorus in the rocket leaves. The combination of 'Azomite' and 'Bio-algeen S92' resulted with the highest values of calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc and manganese of rocket (4.74 % Ca dw, 0.60 % Mg dw, 264.3 mg Fe kg-1 dw, 52.8 mg Zn kg-1 dw and 72.15 mg Mn kg-1 dw) and phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and manganese of radish (0.52 % P dw, 7.48 % K dw, 0.71 % Ca dw, 0.29 % Mg dw, 203.2 mg Fe kg-1 dw and 11.97 mg Mn kg-1 dw). The obtained results indicate that application of 'Azomite' and 'Bio-algeen S92' could be recommended for spring production of rocket and radish due to a higher nutritive value.
