Cellulosic Fabrics – Assessment of N-CETYL Pyridinium Chloride Adsorption and Desorption
In this paper the adsorption and desorption of cationic surfactant, N-cetylpyridinium chloride (N-CPC), using standard cellulosic (cotton and cotton/PES) fabrics at different pH, was researched by electrokinetic analysis, potentiometric titration and FTIR-ATR analysis. Adsorption was performed by different mechanical movement on electrokinetic analyzer SurPASS, orbital shaker (2D) and Linitest (3D). Desorption of N-CPC was performed same way as adsorption only in distilled water. The adsorbed/desorbed amount was determined potentiometrically. The results showed the difference of adsorption and desorption due to lower number of functional groups and different swelling of cotton and cotton/polyester blend. Considering different mechanical movement higher adsorption was achieved by Linitest (3D).
