Croatian register of forensic psychiatric patients
Aim: In forensic psychiatry globally there is a tendency to increase inpatient (or high to medium risk) capacities. This tendency is a mark of (re)institutionalization of certain groups of persons with mental Health disorders. Similarly, the Resources that are spent for the care of such persons are rising, although robust dana that clearly show the efficacy of such care are very limited. One of the reasons for such a "blind spot" is a lack of rigorously collected longitudinal dana. For that reason, the Croatian Psychiatric Association started a project of developing and implementing the Croatian register of forensic patients in the Republic of Croatia (hereinafter the Register). In this presentation development, current structure and future directions of the Register are presented. Methods: The initial phase of the development of the Register was systematic reviwe of scientific literature and systematic analysis of the dana from forensic patients treated at the University Psychiatric Hospital Vrapče (hereinafter UPHV). In the constitutional phase of the develpment, four experts from UPHV and two experts from a technical partner in the project were involved. In consecutive phases, the Register was presented six times in fron of the expert committee (included four to seven members) at UPHV. A pilot version of the Register was presented and tested at the expert meeting of the Croatian Association of Forensic Psychiatry. The Register was finally presented in front of expert committee of Croatian Ministry of Health. Results: The final version of the Register was created and has been further tested within the UPHV during the last year. The goal is to start with national implementation of the Register by the end of 2019. Conclusions: The main aim of the systematic implementation of the Register is the creation of a comprehensive and usable database that has the potential to influence forensic psychiatric care on many levels, from pure practical/clinical to organizational ones. This is also the exact reason why all participants of this process have an obligation to be part of this project.
