Differences in foot and leg flexibility and balance between trainees of classical pilates and Body technique
Introduction In a large number of training activities within the fitness industry almost none of them give too much importance to the awareness of the feet and their activation in terms of strength and flexibility. Body Technique, unlike the classical Pilates, gives much importance to strengthening and flexibility of feet muscles through specially designed exercises, which aim at an optimal foot function as the support of the human body. Method The purpose of the pilot study was to determine differences between the flexibility of foot and lower leg muscles and the balance among the participants involved in the classical Pilates training program and the Body Technique training program. The research was carried out on a sample of 15 examinees, who exercises classical Pilates program, and the other 15 participants practise Body Technique. The research is designed to track exercisers one-time in 6 variables. Three tests measured foot flexibility and the other three tests measured the balance. Results and discussion Although this study was conducted on a small sample, the results obtained demonstrate, in a total of six variables that were measured, four statistically significant differences in favour of the Body Technique training program. In 2 variables (dorsal flexion, t=5, 846 ; df=28 ; p<0, 01 ; plantar flexion, t=7, 506 ; df=28 ; p<0, 01) and 2 variables for assessing the balance (bench longitudinally, t = 5, 86 ; df = 28 ; p < 0, 01 ; the bench transverse, t = 5, 16 ; df = 28 ; p < 0, 01), a statistically significant difference was obtained in the benefit for the Body Technique. Conclusion Based on the results obtained, it can concluded that Body Technique through its exercises, significantly influences the flexibility and balance that form part of the main components of health fitness.
