Non-ionizing modality role in soft tissue tumor imaging: case reports
Our goal was to show two rare cases of tumors and their presentation with non-ionizing imaging procedures : ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. Both cases came to musculoskeletal ultrasound ofiice first. First case showed hypoechogenic node in neck region, which manifested with extensive pain during fine needle aspiration under ultrasound guidance. Later during magnetic resonance imaging node was confirmed to be derived from brachial plexus, and histopatology confirmed diagnosis as neurilemmoma.Second patient showed hypoechogenic mass in right subpectoral region, which showed very bright contrast enhancing after gadolinium administration, encircling brachial plexus and subclavian artery. Later histopatolgy confirmed node as anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). These two cases are pretty rare and unusual, but should be remembered as differential, especially for one who spend most of his working hours in head and neck imaging.
