ULOGA POTROŠAČA SEKTORA KUĆANSTVA U RAZVOJU NISKOUGLJIČNOG ELEKTROENERGETSKOG SUSTAVA
Climate change enforced policy makers to intensively think about reducing CO2 emissions. In the power system, the solution is seen in the increased share of RES in the electricity production. Thus, taking into account the technical capabilities and features of the power system as well as the economic viability, flexibility becomes more and more important in order to enable the larger ingress of RES into the power system and to ensure the proper functioning of the system at the same time. Consequently, the idea of electricity consumers becoming prosumers occurs. The paper discusses the possibilities of household consumers to become prosumers, focusing on the demand response and its impact on the reduction of electricity consumption and consequently on the CO2 emissions reduction and the development of low carbon power system. In order to successfully establish the concept of demand response, the appropriate metering and communication equipment, legislation and education of consumers is necessary. There is currently no established concept of demand response in the EU, but key steps for its establishment have been taken in some countries. Still, in greater number of countries the concept of demand response is in its initial phase and changes are expected in the coming years.
