In this report the authors present main findings of the assessment study of trafficking in women and children for the purpose of sexual exploitation. This study is the first systematic research done on the patterns, scale and dimensions of trafficking in Croatia. The authors discuss various definitions of trafficking of women for the purpose of sexual exploitation, give estimates of trafficking and describe characteristic patterns of this phenomenon in Europe and Croatia. Various methods were applied in order to assess trafficking in women and children in Croatia: review of official statistics, content analysis of trafficking reported by the Croatia media and a national survey conducted on a representative sample of adult population which gave estimates of public awareness of trafficking and a qualitative analysis of in-depth interviews with persons who were involved in the process of trafficking.
