Teacher education in Croatia: Characteristics and perspectives
Professionalism and competences of teachers significantly determine the level of educational achievement of students. Therefore, the education of future teachers is an important aspect of each state education policy. Recent studies of teacher's and students' perception of the situation and professional needs emphasize the need to develop social and communication skills and the need for quality basic psychological- pedagogical training and teaching methodology. Thus, in this study, teachers pointed out the importance of teaching competence and communicative competence for successful work in the classroom, and students have additionally emphasized creativity. The implications and perspectives of the present study are described in the context of future development and improvement of the quality of the teacher education system.
