Electrophysiological characteristics of pulp tissue were measured with a commercial device, EED-11(Struja,Zagreb,Croatia). The device is fitted with a 9V battery. Bioelectric potential of dentin (BEPD) was measured in 120 patients at three points in the cavity : at the bottom, at points on the cavity walls and on the dentinoenamel junction. Individual value of bioelectric potential was measured by means of an active silver wire probe, 0,40 mm in diameter (Maillefer-Switzerland) on attached gingiva of the mandibula in the anterior region (measuring test =value norm). BEPD was measured in a relatively dry cavity , in two groups : 1)vital teeth (control group) and 2)teeth with a pathological clinical finding in the pulp (examined group). On the dentinoenamel junction of healty teeth the BEPD value was 105,64 ą 50,47 mV, wich is approximately 50% of the measuring test on gingiva. Statistically , by using T-test it was estimated that (p<0,001) changes in potential values on the dentinoenamel junction, are sign of irreversible alteration to pulp tissue (positive BEPD-test).The reliability of the positive test result was 87%. |
