Optimization of bioprocess for production of copper-enriched biomass of industrially important microorganism Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Production of saccharomyces cerevisiae biomass enriched with copper and the effects of adding copper ions into different media on the yeast growth and the production of ethanol were studied. Copper ion levels in media up to 0, 094 mM did not affect alcoholic fermentation, whreas, at a higher concentration, a marked decrease in the rate of yeast cellular growth and ethanol production occured. In static conditions, the maximum uptake (1, 16 mg/g ; 1, 2 mg/g ; 0, 81 mg/g dry matter yeast biomass for glucose, sucrose and molasses medium, respectively) was obtained after 8 hours of fermentation, while in dynamic conditions a lower uptake (0, 98 mg/g ; 1, 02 mg/g ; 0, 7 mg/g dry matter yeast biomass for glucose, sucrose and molasses medium, respectively) was obtained after 6 h of fermentation.
