Creating of a sail is a never-ending process of constant optimization, which concerns not only sail design and construction, but also creation of suitable sailcloth. Modern sailcloth materials are extremely complex, both regarding the type of fibers used and, even more so, regarding specific construction characteristics. Since, there were no clear requirements regarding quality, and experience was the most important parameter in assessing a product, objective measurement and evaluation of sailcloth’ s quality has become a topic of great importance. Therefore, few years ago, we have started collaboration with well-known sailmaker company Victory Intervela d.o.o. on the development of sailcloth’ s objective evaluation system and its implementation in sail design and production. The paper presented here summarizes our results. |
