The relationship between personality traits, elements of prototype/willingness model and actual risky behaviors among adolescents
The aim of this study was to explore factors of adolescents` risky health behaviors regarding smoking, drinking and drug use, in the context of prototype/willingness model and approach that connect personality traits and risky health behaviors. The sample consisted of 341 high school students. The research was carried out in four parts. Participants completed a range of questionnaires intended to measure relevant risky factors (attitudes, subjective norms, prototypes and willingness), actual risky behaviors (smoking, drinking, drug use) and personality traits (Big five personality traits). The results of hierarchical regression analysis show that personality traits do not contribute substantionaly to the explanation of risky health behaviors when compared to elements of prototype/willingness model. Subjective norms are significant predictors of all risky health behaviors. Only agreeableness is a negative predictor of drinking. These results support the fact that the social and situational influences are very important in examing risky
