Thin Rimmed Gears-Survey of Tooth Root Stress Behaviour
The paper deals with the tooth root stress behaviour of various involute gears: external spur and helical gears and internal spur gears. The magnitude and location of peak root stresses affected primarily by a gear rim thickness are presented to give point to the change of loading condition i.e. to embrace the possibility of gear fatigue strength reduction. The investigations under consideration were accomplished by means of various methods: boundary and finite element method, strain gages and photoelasticity experiments.
