Teachers' perceptions of teacher education as a part of school improvement policy
The aim of this study was to find out what is the classroom teachers' perception of the present school system and which changes do they percieve as essential and inevitable in order to improve their teaching, as well as student-learning. The responses of 130 teachers to the open-ended survey have been collected. The qualitative approach was used in order to give teachers the opportunity to express their opinions in depth. Teachers' responses have been compared with the concepts and ideas of expert groups engaged by policy-makers to work out the outlines of the educational reform. Findings indicate some areas of congruence between educational experts and teachers in perception of the features of necessary reform, but also show teachers' apprehension about their marginalisation in the whole process.
