OPTIMIZATION OF AN AXIAL HYDROSTATIC BEARING WORK CONDITION
Axial hydrostatic bearings are commonly used for rotary tables of heavy lathes. These bearings can be characterized as highly stiff and loadable regarding that their role is to ensure the high accuracy of machining and positioning. If properly designed these bearings could be in operative use for a long time with minimum maintenance cost. The oil film thickness of a hydrostatic bearing must be as large as enough so it could prohibit the contact between the sliding surfaces. By increasing the oil film thickness, the increase of the stiffness and the driver power can be achieved. The oil film thickness must be controlled with the use of counter baths or mechanically. In the paper the determination of appropriate oil film thickness is presented.
