Residential problems of mobility impaired persons result mostly in conection with the accessibility and usability of residence and furniture, and from the lack of space. While dealing with these problems one has to bear in mind the following basic physiological needs: sleeping, eating and personal hygiene. Planing and making furniture for mobility impaired persons is almost impossible without respecting ergonomic principles. This article will give you some indications and recommendations on the points to remember when constructing and building, or adapting kitchen furniture for persons with mobility dificulties. The intention of the authors is to warn the public of the need to make furniture for mobility impaired persons, especially for persons in wheelchairs. Kitschen furniture is chosen as an example because of the complex activities that take place in the kitchen. Special attention is given to furniture dimensions, furniture details and the use of shackles and additional equipment.
