Sažetak:
Children exposed to the political violence and direct war operation may reveal mental health disturbances, such as depressive symptoms, years after the immediate experience is over. The previous investigation showed that personality factors are good predictors of the depressive symptoms. The aim of the study was to examine the relationships between Eysenck's personality dimensions and depression in displaced and resident children in early adolescence. The sample consisted of 283 displaced children from occupied parts of Croatia at the time of investigation (spring 1995) and 300 resident children from Zagreb ; their ages ranged from 12 to 15 years. Displaced children had been displaced for approximately 3.5 years. Personality dimensions were assessed by the means of Junior Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (Eysenck & Eysenck, 1994) and depression by Reynolds Adolescent Depression Scale (Reynolds, 1986). The results indicated that displaced children had statistically significant higher scores on depression scale. This two groups did not statistically differ in E-scale, N-scale and P-scale. Regression analyses showed that higher scores on Neuroticism and Psychoticism and lower scores on Extraversion were related to more depressive symptoms. These findings are discussed in terms of the stable relationships among personality factors and depression in displaced and resident children.
